IEEE-1394  Ports

Commonly Known as Firewire

Originally developed by "Apple Computers" and later adopted by the IEEE as official standard.

It is effectively a SCSI serial interface and operating at speeds up to 400Mb/sec .Intended to support demanding peripherals such

as digital cameras , external hard drives , printers and cam recorders.

The ports are installed on most new digital cam-recorders and on Sony laptops (known by I-link ports).

On new pc's firewire port or ports are now is included on the motherboards but if your pc is older you can install a PCI card to give this interface.

PCI cards are often installed to allow the user to carry out video editing of movie's.

Configuration is normally easy as most devices are plug and play under current operating systems.

This  SCSI interface requires no device ID's to be setup and no additional termination , unlike previous SCSI interfaces.

Recently some people have found it useful for small networks.
